In partnership with CBC Manitoba, FascinAsian is pleased to host a live pitch session for Pan-Asian filmmakers to present their short documentary film ideas to a live audience and a panel of industry professionals for feedback. There are also potential opportunities to have their concept produced with the CBC!
Interested filmmakers are asked to submit a CV and a short synopsis (150 words max) of their short documentary concept to info@fascinasian.ca by April 13th. There will be six (6) total participants selected to pitch out of all submissions. The selection will be handled by a jury of experienced filmmakers.
Each presenter will have a maximum of three (3) minutes to pitch their story, followed by ten (10) minutes of questions and feedback by the panel. Pitches can include media (video, audio, pictures, slide presentation, etc.) to support the presentation.
This event is partly educational, providing participants with the opportunity to hone and practice their craft in a safe, encouraging, non-competitive space. Pitching in front of an audience and a panel, raises the stakes for the participants – creating an exciting atmosphere for all in attendance! Selected pitch participants will receive a pitch coaching session with an industry professional in advance of the event.
It is also partly a creative funding opportunity – as pitches will have the potential to be developed as CBC projects. Selected participants will also receive a filmmaker pass to the 2026 FascinAsian Film Festival!
The panel of three (3) industry professionals will include Robin Summerfield – Producer for CBC Manitoba’s Creator Network (3–4-minute shorts), and regional documentary program, Absolutely Canada (22 or 44-minutes for broadcast television). Robin may select projects to develop for these programs at her discretion.
Two other panelists to be announced!
